Kurinuki Tea Bowl Carving
This workshop explores Kurinuki carving. Kurinuki translates in Japanese 'to hollow' and is a traditional technique to make pottery by carving away from a single block of clay. Hollowing out clay in this way is a slow and meditative process that produces truly unique one-of-a-kind ceramics pieces. The workshop runs for approximately 5 hours and 2-3 tea bowls can be made. Both soft and firm clay are used to experience different styles of carving and texture effects.
Decorating With Slip
This 5-6 hour workshop is designed for those wishing to explore decorating their own work with colour, texture and patterns. Topics covered will be:
Different types of slip - making from reclaimed clay, slip and engobe recipes from dry materials and commercial underglazes
Colouring slip with stains

Have a go on the potters wheel
Saturday 3rd February 2024 10am-2.30pm
Ever wanted to have-a-go on a potters wheel or have not done it for a while, then this class is for you. Liz will take you through the process of throwing step-by-step. Learn how to prepare and wedge your clay, how to centre, open and pull up your clay and finally shape it on the wheel. Have the whole afternoon to practice and then choose your two best pieces to take through the firing process to be glazed in a floating blue.
